Who we are

An independent centre for Africa–US trade and economic development.

The African Centre for International Trade and Economic Development (AfriCITED) is a nonprofit organisation founded in 2010. We believe that mobilising capital and expertise is essential for the economic development of Africa.

Our integrated approach brings together partnerships, financial tools and market insights to unlock the potential of African markets and foster a new era of growth and collaboration between Africa and the United States.

This strategic focus reflects our commitment to catalysing economic development, enhancing trade relationships and supporting the sustainable growth of African economies, in alignment with the broader goals of the African Growth and Opportunity Act and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

What we do

Four pillars for unlocking African markets.

Each pillar reinforces the others, creating an integrated pathway from opportunity to investment to sustained trade.

  • 01

    Capital mobilisation

Connecting African enterprises with investors, diaspora capital and blended-finance instruments that match the scale of the opportunity.

  • 02

    Trade facilitation

Helping exporters and importers navigate AGOA, AfCFTA and US market access requirements to move goods and services across borders.

  • 03

    Market intelligence

Producing sector research, policy analysis and market insights that give partners the confidence to commit capital and enter new markets.

  • 04

    Partnerships & convening

Bringing together governments, chambers of commerce, financial institutions and entrepreneurs to build lasting Africa–US relationships.

Policy frameworks

Aligned with the two frameworks reshaping African trade.

Our work is anchored in the opportunities created by AGOA and the AfCFTA, so that partners can act with clarity on both sides of the Atlantic.

AGOA

African Growth and Opportunity Act

The cornerstone of US trade policy toward sub-Saharan Africa, granting duty-free access to the US market for thousands of product lines. We help African producers qualify, comply and scale under AGOA.

  • Duty-free US market access
  • Eligibility and rules-of-origin guidance
  • Buyer and distributor matchmaking

AfCFTA

African Continental Free Trade Area

The world’s largest free trade area by membership, uniting 54 countries into a single market. We support businesses and US partners positioning for intra-African trade and continental value chains.

  • Single-market entry strategy
  • Regional value-chain development
  • Policy and regulatory intelligence

Our approach

An integrated pathway from opportunity to lasting trade.

Development that lasts is built on ecosystems, not one-off deals. Our model connects every stage so that momentum compounds.

  1. 1

    Identify opportunity

We map sectors, corridors and enterprises where capital and market access can create outsized, sustainable impact.

  2. 2

    Mobilise capital & expertise

We convene investors, diaspora networks and technical partners, matching them to vetted opportunities with the right financial tools.

  3. 3

    Enable trade

We support compliance, market entry and buyer relationships so that deals translate into goods and services crossing borders.

  4. 4

    Sustain growth

We stay engaged through data, policy dialogue and partnerships that keep the ecosystem growing long after the first transaction.
